A lot of women are addicted to Facebook, according to a recent survey by NBC Universal’s Oxygen Media. The study sampled the habits of 1,605 women and their social media habits. “Of the over 1,600 women surveyed, 34 percent stated that they check Facebook literally first thing in the morning, before going to brush their teeth.”[i] Other interesting stats include:
- 21% of women age 18-34 check Facebook in the middle of the night
- 50% are fine with being Facebook friends with complete strangers
- 63% use Facebook as a networking tool
- 42% think it’s okay to post photos of themselves intoxicated[ii]
So what does this mean about young women? Young women have integrated social media into their daily routine and they’re very open to sharing. However, another note of importance from the study is that the majority of 18-24 year old women (around 54%) indicate that “they do not trust Facebook with their private information, and 89% agree that ‘you should never put anything on Facebook that you don’t want your parents to see.’”
What do you think of these statistics? Based on your experience, do you feel they ring true?
